“I look forward to fighting and standing up for a democracy we all believe in.”
My family taught me about courage at a very young age. You see my uncle, Richard Lindsey, was a member of the North Little Rock Six who attempted to integrate North Little Rock High School. While the students were not successful at the time, they never stopped fighting for equality. Learning from him has been the foundation and inspiration of my life’s work. I always strived to be a voice for underserved, underrepresented, marginalized communities and consider them with every step I take. It’s been a decade since a woman has held this seat.
Well, we did it! I am so grateful for the kind words of support you all have expressed over the past few days. I am incredibly honored to be your Democratic nominee for State Representative and will fight for everyone in District 37 every single day.
I have so many people to thank for this. To our volunteers, campaign team, individuals that walked door to door, phone banked, organized meet and greets, or held a fundraiser. To the educators who always helped me. To my family, mentors, Presidential Leadership Scholars classmates, former students, church members, friends, and supporters. To the people who have been there with me from the beginning, to the people who I have met along the way, and to my new friends I have met on the campaign trail— Thank you for believing in me and in this district.
The work to provide equity, opportunity, and access in District 37 begins now. I cannot wait to serve my neighbors in the district I have called home my entire life. Thank you all, again, from the bottom of my heart. Onward. – Jamie Scott
